Somatic Ecotherapy Consultation Seminar
April 27 – June 15, 2012
In the Office and On the Land in Marin County

What does therapy look like when we hold ourselves to be a part of the natural world?

We understand logically that we are always present in and a part of Nature. Yet much of our suffering as humans comes from an experience of disconnection and alienation from the natural world. When the psyche is considered to be part of Nature, human nature may be understood and worked with in an entirely different way. The time has come for psychology to embrace humanity as a part of Nature.

We also all know that being in Nature can be highly restorative and therapeutic. This consultation group is designed for mental health practitioners who are called to tap into Nature's highly restorative and healing powers and help clients deepen their connection with the natural world.

Join this seminar to explore and learn:

  • How to engage the body and Nature in alive-in-the-moment, experiential therapeutic work
  • How to use natural objects as therapeutic resources and evoke unconscious material
  • Apply weekly readings in Nature-based psychology to assessment and treatment planning
  • Clinical implications and legal/ethical considerations for indoor & outdoor ecotherapy
  • Work with personal and collective grief about ongoing damage done to the natural world

Group Schedule: The group meets 8 times:

  • Fridays, April 27, May 11 & 25, and June 15 , 9am- 12pm, on the land in Marin County, CA
  • Fridays, May 4 & 18, and June 8 (10am- 12pm), indoors in San Rafael, CA
  • Friday, June 1, 9am- 5pm, on the land in west Marin County

Wilderness Quest & Ecopsychology Apprenticeship Program
July 9 – 21, 2012
In the Inyo National Forest

Are you enchanted by the beauty and power of nature to touch, open, heal and inspire?

  • Do you feel called to help others reconnect with their own wild aliveness?
  • Desire to study and work in the emerging field of ecopsychology/ecotherapy?
  • Or long to bring the magic of ceremony & wilderness into people's lives?

In this two week-long program, participants will receive training in the life-altering practices of the wilderness quest and somatic ecotherapy. Learn to ally with nature to weave beautiful tapestries of healing, self-discovery and fulfillment. Read the movements of body and psyche as you might track the signs of wildlife and elements of Nature.

Become a student of the myriad practices and ceremonies that can lead people to profound revelations of life purpose, renewal and the marking of major life transitions. And deepen your own relationship to the "more than human" world and the rhythmic ways that the wild aliveness of the seasons is expressed through your own body and life.

In addition to quest guide training, time will be spent on other eco-therapeutic approaches that are more easily applied in urban and other non-wilderness settings. For people who feel called to become quest guides or eco-therapists, this apprenticeship is a rare hands-on opportunity to join like-minded peers for an intensive, body-oriented, experiential training in the beautiful practice of guiding others “out on the mountain”.
