Nature Retreat for Men & Women

This retreat is a nature-based rite of passage, drawing upon age-old, cross-cultural practices that humans have used to enter into an intentional, transformative relationship with the natural world.  This relationship with Nature serves as a clear mirror for inquiring into  essential questions of life.  This retreat is designed for those who are new to nature-based rites of passage work and for those who want to prepare for a full-length vision fast or reconnect with and integrate gifts from a previous fast.  On this retreat you will learn sacred, ceremonial ways to deeply connect with yourself, other people and the land surrounding you.  You will prepare for a twenty-four hour solo fast.  Once alone in the solace and peace of your place, you will engage the work of your soul….answering your deepest longings to follow the call home–the home of the authentic self.   The guides will draw upon their knowledge of wilderness-based practices, as well as body-based mindfulness practices and training from Hakomi, Somatic Experiencing, Vipassana meditation, and the Diamond Heart Approach.

Severance: This is a time to sever ties with life as you know it, to slow down and disengage from the modern, technical world. The first day will be spent in camp. You will become acquainted with your guides and fellow participants and cover such topics as: no trace camping; safety and survival procedures; teaching of The Four Shields; exploration of your intention for the retreat; and creating your own ceremonies for growth, healing and celebration. The guides will use embodied, nature based meditation and the practice of Council to create a group space that is authentic and intimate. You will also spend time alone on the land, to begin to explore what draws you in nature and to deepen your intentions.  That evening, you will be guided in a ceremony to support you in letting and transforming anything that may be holding you back from fully stepping into your solo time.

Threshold: As you have removed yourself even further from your regular, daily life and the familiar human world, you are now prepared to step out of your “normal” life and consciousness and into the sacred realm of the ceremony. During Threshold, which begins on Saturday morning, you will spend 24 hours living alone without contact with other people. This is a time to turn your attention inward to what your soul is being called to engage. You may choose to fast during this time. Much attention is paid to safely setting up this phase of the retreat.  You will be given guidance and suggestions for how to engage the wild nature of your soul with the land.

Reincorporation: On Sunday morning, you will return to base camp to be greeted by your guides. After celebrating with breaking the fast, we will engage the process of returning to “normal” life. We will work together to help you make meaning of your alone time on the land. Each woman will get to share her experiences with the group and will be assisted in a myriad of ways in bringing the many facets of her solo time back into daily life.
