A DayQuest is particularly helpful if you:

  • Are eager to root your yoga practice in Nature

The Day

About one-third of the day is spent in solitude, with the other two-thirds are spent together in council with a small group where we practice and discuss a variety of topics including: the teachings of the elements and seasons from the context of  Yoga & Ayurveda; ways of seeking guidance from inner and outer Nature, healing and intimacy with Nature; clarification of each individual’s intention (sankalpa) for the day and help in understanding and applying Nature’s offerings to you during your solo time.  Beyond group practice of Yoga, you will be encouraged to find your pose and your practice in a new way out on the land.

Yoga Day Quest

In the roots of Yoga philosophy, we find deep connection to Nature and Nature’s rhythm.  We will explore the dynamics of the elements (bhutas) as they relate to seasons, places in nature, asana (yogic postures) , and patterns of acting and thinking.  From yogic and ayurvedic perspectives, we can explore the qualities (gunas) of our lifestyles and patterns and use the wisdom of yoga to shift imbalances (doshas) into their higher forms for the sake of healing.

We will share ancient teachings of where and when to practice on the land as well as practice asana and pranayama together.  Mudras, bandhas, and mantra will be used in our group time to deepen our awareness of self, each other, and the land.  Since many asana are named after animals, and were meant to connect us with the power of those animals, we will explore this practice of mimicking animal forms to help us shift our awareness and learn from our wild neighbors.

In addition to Yoga, we will lead you in other ceremonies and practices that will help you step away from your daily distractions and habits, freeing you to turn to Nature with the fears, hopes and needs of your life. Your pace will slow and you’ll reconnect with Nature and with what truly matters to you. Some participants come with the intention of exploring particular life issues or marking a particular life transition. Others come to get back in touch with deeper values and needs, or simply to “get away”.

 

THE DETAILS

What: An all-day workshop introducing you to a ceremonial way of walking into Nature. Rediscover what is most important to you and what you need right now to feel more balanced, alive and fulfilled. We’ll use a variety of playful and inspiring activities and spend time both as a group and in solitude. A DayQuest is also a wonderful way to mark a point of change in your life or to seek insight or support with specific questions or difficulties.

PLEASE NOTE: To participate, you need to be able to walk for about 30 minutes, including up and down hills.
